WX7V · CW receive trainer

The Mill

Hear real Morse, type what you hear. The Mill is a CW receive trainer named for the telegrapher's mill, the typewriter operators copied code on. It runs entirely on your computer: no account, no subscription, and nothing is sent over the internet.

What it does

The Mill opens in its own window using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, so one of the two must be installed.

Installing

Windows

Unzip the download and run mill-windows-amd64-v1.4.1.exe. There is no installer. Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time because the app is not code-signed: choose More info, then Run anyway.

macOS

Open the tar.gz and drag The Mill.app to Applications. The app is signed and notarized, so it opens like any other app.

Linux

Install the package for your distribution, for example sudo apt install ./mill-linux-amd64-v1.4.1.deb or sudo dnf install ./mill-linux-amd64-v1.4.1.rpm. Then run mill.

Donations

The Mill is free and always will be. People sometimes ask if they can donate: you never need to, but you can leave a tip on Ko-fi. If you would rather pay it forward, consider supporting the Long Island CW Club or the Handiham Program.
